60 seconds with… 7Pines Resort General Manager, Markus Lueck

With the hotly anticipated luxury 7Pines Resort Ibiza just weeks away from opening, we caught up with general manager Markus Lueck to find out what’s unique about the all-suite property on the island’s stunning West Coast and how final preparations are going…

When do you officially open?
We are in soft opening during the month of May and will celebrate our Grand Opening on 2 June 2018.

What’s unique about 7Pines compared to the other luxury offerings in Ibiza?
7Pines Resort Ibiza differentiates from other luxury offerings in Ibiza primarily by its location: we are the only luxury resort located on the West coast of the White Isle, reputed for its natural beauty and known to the locals for some of the best beaches of Ibiza. The views over Es Vedra and the Mediterranean Sea are also to die for, and we have the advantage of offering 365 days of spectacular sunsets.

We also thrive to position ourselves as an innovative dining destination by proposing different culinary concepts. Pure Seven, our 1,500 sqm spa offers a wide array of wellness experiences from massages to medical aesthetics and wellness retreats during the shoulder and lower seasons. Another unique point is the diversity of our team with extensive international backgrounds. Last but not least, our aim is to operate year-round as we believe in the potential of the destination to attract visitors outside of the summer season.

What’s your background and what attracted you to take up the GM position here?
Throughout my twenty years of experience in luxury hospitality across various hotel chains of renown in ten different countries, I first specialised in food & beverage before assuming general management roles. In 2015, I crossed the path of the Founders and Managing Directors of our holding company, 12.18. Investment Management, Joerg Lindner and Kai Richter and was immediately inspired by their vision, drive and dedication to create something unique. I have been given the opportunity to develop the 7Pines brand in order to become a leading hospitality brand in the luxury tourism industry. This convinced me to leave the traditional chain hotel environment and join 12.18 Investment Management on this exciting and remarkable journey.

What’s your favourite feature at the resort?
I love every single aspect of it, but if I had to pick one, due to my culinary background, I must say our concept of gastronomic outlets with a view makes my heart beats faster.

How would you define luxury?
This is exactly from where we started at the inception of the 7Pines brand. Luxury is defined by the balance between seven attributes: the right location, plenty of personal space, marvellous views, utmost privacy, surrounding beauty, individuality through personalised service, and enjoyment through a wide array of unique experiences, be it a memorable dining experience, a rejuvenating wellness moment or an exclusive boat trip on the resort’s own Pershing Yacht. Combined, these seven attributes represent the essence of our remarkable experience, what we believe to be “The Soul of Luxury”.

How will you be spending the next few weeks in the run up to opening?
In the next weeks, our focus will be on preparing the arrival of our 300 colleagues and ensure they have everything needed to provide the best service possible to our guest, as well as implementing all the concepts that have been worked on in the past months and bringing them to life.

How important is meetings and incentives business? And what makes the property attractive to this market?
The meetings and incentives business is incredibly important to the success of our shoulder and low season. 7Pines Resort Ibiza offers an attractive mix of indoors and outdoors venues which allows us to host polyvalent events, an interesting concept of “resort within the resort” with our Lagoon Pool village made of 42 suites which can be fully privatised, as well as a dedicated team of events specialists with a strong knowledge of what can be done on Ibiza to guarantee a successful event.

Will you be planning any FAM trips for this sector?
We are already planning MICE FAM trips as we believe it is a crucial step to unveil the full potential of the resort and influence the decision-making process of our buyers.

What are your key target markets?
Our key target markets are the UK, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, as well the U.S.A. We are focusing our sales and marketing efforts on these markets for our first year by reinforcing our presence in selected forums and trade shows, conducting sales calls and trainings, and through strong affiliation such as The Leading Hotels of the World.
