Bangkok’s hot new luxury openings

The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok has just opened its doors, kicking off a raft of new luxury hotel openings that are putting Thailand’s vibrant capital city firmly in the spotlight.

Set within the 60-storey Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard, Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is located by the bustling Ratchaprasong intersection. Its 171 residential-style, spacious and luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites feature spa-inspired bathrooms and marble bathtubs.

Event planners will be excited by the 730sqm Magnolia Ballroom on level 10, which offers a stunning backdrop for events and accommodates up to 700 guests standing or 330  seated.

The property also features three unique restaurant concepts, a lounge and two bars, including Front Room, the hotel’s signature restaurant, helmed by acclaimed Chef Fae Rungthiwa Chummongkhon, who presents a blend of “new Nordic” and Thai flavours in a relaxed setting.

Bull & Bear on level 55 specialises in grilled meats and seafood, The Loft on level 56 is a glamorous, New York-inspired bar, and The Champagne Bar, located at the hotel’s peak on level 57, offers fine champagnes, hand-crafted cocktails and stunning views over Bangkok.

Hot on the heels of the Waldorf Astoria will be the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, slated to open in November 2018. Hyatt Regency, the fourth Hyatt-branded property to open in the city, will have 300 rooms and suites and over 1,000sqm of meeting and event space, along with two restaurants, a bar and spa and fitness centre. The design of the property combines modern Thailand with the golden era of Siam.

As part of a wider expansion in 2018, The EDITION brand is expected to open in Bangkok by the end of the year. The hotel will feature 155 guest rooms, five levels of public space, and meeting space including a boardroom, main function room and outdoor banquet terrace. Food and beverage outlets include two signature restaurants, a lobby bar and pool bar.  A pool, state-of-the-art fitness centre and spa with four treatment rooms will also be available for hotel guests.

On the horizon for 2019, following the success of Rosewood Phuket, the luxury brand is planning to open a property in Bangkok, featuring 159 rooms including 64-square-metre Pool Sky Villas with spacious terraces and private plunge pools.

Four Seasons is also returning to the city next year with the opening of Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, which will offer 300 rooms.
