Experience This…Sakura season at the Peninsula Tokyo

Springtime in Japan heralds the start of sakura – cherry blossom season – one of the most picturesque and beautiful events in the Japanese calendar. Tourists and locals alike will scour the country for the best hanami, or flower-viewing spots to picnic and make the most of this short season.

From March until mid-April, the Peninsula Tokyo has been transformed in to a hanami destination in its own right, with the lobby bedecked in three-metre high cherry boughs.

Activities include a cherry blossom picnic, where guests can pick up a hamper of treats including a bottle of sparkling rosé and venture off to Hibiya Park or the Imperial Palace East Gardens for an afternoon under the blossom.

From 2-14 April, the hotel will serve a Sakura Afternoon Tea in the The Lobby, with a glass of rosé champagne and a selection of seasonal snacks and sakura-inspired sweets including homemade sakura scones flavoured with salted cherry petals, sakurastrawberry lamington and sakura panna cotta.

Don’t miss the specials on the cocktail menu, which include the gin-based Anniversary Bouquet mixing chamomile, elderflower and sakura liqueur and The New Journey, made with champagne and three types of the pink flower.

The Peninsula’s fleet of vintage Rolls Royce Phantoms can take guests out on a tour of the Meguro River cherry blossom trees by day or the illuminated Ark Hills blossoms by night, while the Peninsula Spa has created a 110-minute cherry blossom spa ceremony which will prove just the tonic after a day exploring the city.
