Three of the best boutique boltholes in Barcelona

As the events industry descends on Barcelona this week for IBTM World, we pick out three of the Catalan city’s chic boutique hotels that are perfect for smaller exclusive meetings and incentives…

The Serras
Home to a top Catalan chef and the site of Pablo Picasso’s first studio where he painted Ciencia y Caridad in 1897, The Serras is a high-end hideaway on Barcelona’s celebrated Passeig de Colom. Minutes from the beach and the Gothic quarter in Barcelona, there are 30 rooms and suites at The Serras. Though a fashionable world lies just outside its front door, inside a soothing colour palette of grey, silver, sand, mustard, and green echoes the sea, painting a portrait of calm that Picasso himself would have admired.

The hotel’s amazing rooftop terrace El Sueño, overlooking the Marina Port Vell, is the perfect spot to enjoy a sunset cocktail. The terrace can seat up to 30 people and is also bookable for cocktail receptions of up to 90 people. Following the huge success of his family-run establishment in Girona, Michelin-Starred Chef Marc Gascons’ Informal features a menu that is very much Catalan and Mediterranean in style. A private dining space is available for groups of up to 20.

Gran Hotel La Florida
From its location at one of the highest points of Barcelona, high atop Mount Tibidabo, the Gran Hotel La Florida offers sweeping views of Barcelona and the Mediterranean. Like its location, the hotel’s history is dramatic. It was built in 1925 by prestigious Noucentista architect Ramon Raventos, but closed during the Civil War and was converted into a military hospital in 1939.

Reborn as a luxury property in the 1950s, La Florida was restored combining traditional and avant-garde styles, both inside and out. The property has 70 rooms, including Junior Suites, private terrace room and suites, and five meeting rooms with different capacities as well as terraces with gardens that can be used as stunning backdrops for groups of up to 140. The Gran Hotel La Florida is also one of the few hotels in Barcelona that offers be reserved exclusively for meeting and incentive groups.

Other facilities include the L’Occitane Spa, Barcelonas fine dining restaurant for 50 people and Café 1925, with capacity for 130 people and with the best views over Barcelona

Hotel Granados 83
An oasis of Zen tranquility in the heart of Old City, Hotel Granados 83 brings a touch of New York industrial-chic to Barcelona. The glass, steel, and exposed brick of the hotel’s airy interiors combine with hotel owner Jordi Clos’ personal collection of original Hindu and Buddhist artworks dating from as early as the 10th century.

Located in a former hospital, the hotel is shaped from a stunning rusted iron structure that is reminiscent of the old lofts in New York’s Soho neighbourhood. The marble, steel, and glass in the 77 loft-style rooms of Hotel Granados 83, which is set in Barcelona’s Old City, are enhanced by exposed brick walls and African zebrano wood floors.

Located on the top floor of the Granados 83, alongside the hotel’s swimming pool and solarium, the 8 Terrace Bar is the perfect place to have a cocktail and try small gastronomic snacks. Meanwhile, the G Bar is a minimalist space on the ground floor, for having cocktails surrounded by glamour. For dedicated meetings, the Granados 83 meeting hall is a luxury 73 m² space decorated with original Roman mosaics with capacity for up to 45 people sitting and 80 standing.
