Exclusive Incentives – COMO Style

‘Sun, Sea & Sand’ incentive travel is still the great motivator for firing performance. Offering highly aspirational destinations with the X Factor such as the Maldives can still win hands down in the pitch stakes. With so many islands and luxury retreats in the Maldives, we focus on one brand, with two Maldivian properties, joining us at inVOYAGE 2016 …. COMO Hotels & Resorts.

The Maldives are a beautiful, natural chain of over 1,190 tiny, low-lying islands. Spread over 90,000 square kilometres, they are also some of the most dispersed in the world, yet in landmass only twice the size of Washington DC.  Situated far out in the Indian Ocean, they are divided up into 26 atolls, or groups of islands (the word atoll, which originated from a Maldivian word atholhu in the Dhivehi language, means ‘ring-shaped coral’).

These tiny islands (the largest is only eight kilometres long) are surrounded by spectacularly clear waters.  The land itself is made up of live coral reefs and sand bars, making the natural ecosystem here truly distinctive.  Coral patches may be exposed at low tide and just as quickly covered up again six hours later. For the islands are some of the lowest lying on the planet. They are typically flat, with the highest point above sea level reaching a mere 10 feet.

As to COMO Cocoa Island, the resort is located in the South Malé Atoll (or South Kaafu Atoll), only 40 minutes by speedboat from the capital of Malé, which is also where the international airport is located.  The equator, an imaginary line equidistant from the North and South Poles, passes through the Maldives, just south of Cocoa. It offers 33 overwater suites surrounded by a private reef, with some of the world’s best diving opportunities just off the soft-white-sands.

COMO Maalifushi is the first luxury resort in the Maldives to open in the pristine Thaa Atoll in the archipelago’s southwest. With 60 overwater villas and beach suites and rooms, Maalifushi is therefore the ultimate away-from-it-all incentive destination. There are some excellent breaks nearby as well as a string of uninhabited private islands, where there are seasonal hammerhead and manta ray sightings.

COMO Latest News – First Luxury Yacht

For a different way to navigate the waters in the Maldives, COMO Hotels and Resorts is offering a new luxury experience with ‘Cameron’, a 68-foot Hatteras yacht. Using this live-aboard vessel, guests can dip in and out of COMO’s two resorts, Cocoa Island and Maalifushi, to experience two very different atolls.

Usually anchored at Maalifushi, ’Cameron’ is available to charter for a few hours, or can be booked for multi-night itineraries to catch a specific wave or a whale shark migration. Staff are personalised to each excursion, be it chefs for picnics on marble-white sandbanks, or night dives requiring a specialist instructor. Their sport fishing guides will help you land tuna, wahoo, marlin or sailfish spotted from the yacht’s 40ft tower.

Like a floating hotel suite, she crosses the archipelago in safety, with a top speed of 32 knots. For those who want to just kick back in comfort, there is not just an air-conditioned fly bridge but a polished walnut-lined lounge. The three luxurious cabins are configured as a master suite, queen and twin — all with ensuite bathrooms — and finessed as elegantly as COMO’s hotels.

COMO Hotels & Resorts will be at inVOYAGE 2016.
