Checking in: A luxury eco-resort in the Dubai desert

Dubai isn’t necessarily the first place you would think to look for a sustainable events venue. But if sustainability is as important to you as luxury, Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort and Spa is a great option.

The five-star eco-luxury resort is a tranquil hideaway set in the lush palm groves and sand dunes of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, and combines perfectly with a stay in the city to give groups two very different experiences of the emirate.

The hotel is dedicated to the conservation of its natural environment and the area’s Bedouin heritage, reflected in its design and preserved through its collection of over 2,000 artefacts and antiquities.

The Reserve was created around the property, establishing 75 species of native plants and reintroducing indigenous gazelles to the area; it’s also home to the Arabian Oryx, the population of which has quadrupled since the Reserve was established.

Measures adopted to reduce the resort’s environmental impact include LED lighting, solar panels, sewage treatment plants, sustainable management of water, re-using cooking oil as bio-diesel, reducing energy consumption, and using battery-powered vehicles.

The property has 37 Bedouin suites, two Royal suites, two Emirates suites, and one Presidential suite complete with its own dining area, private courtyard, private kitchen and servants quarters. An abundance of experiences are on offer for both thrill-seekers and those seeking the ultimate chilled vibe.

Against the dramatic backdrop of the Hajar mountains, guests can set out on a horse ride, camel trek or a nature walk to observe the Arabian landscape and spot an oryx or gazelle. Bespoke desert safaris can be arranged, alongside archery and falconry sessions.

When it’s time to unwind, the team of international spa therapists offer an incredible range of wellness, rejuvenation and beauty therapies from across the globe, reflecting Dubai’s cosmopolitan population.

Timeless Spa’s signature treatments are based on Middle Eastern and South East Asian aromatherapy traditions and guests can also make use of the private Rasoul chamber, hydrotherapy bath, sauna and steam room including a cold plunge pool, Jacuzzi, swimming pool and a fully equipped fitness centre.

Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort and Spa is attending inVOYAGE 2019 in Monaco on 6-9 October.
