Behind the Scenes: What goes into the making of a 5* Myconian Incentive?

Looking to host an incentive in Mykonos? We catch up with some of the world’s leading events agencies to see just what goes into the making of a top incentive in Mykonos and what you simply can’t miss when visiting the island…

Karin, CEO, nice:-) team-nice.de

inVOYAGE: Karin, I know you’ve taken a couple of incentives to Mykonos in the past. What can you tell us about Mykonos as an incentive destination and what style of programme does it lend itself to?

Karin, CEO, nice:-) Our clients expect nothing but the best, and Mykonos delivers on every front. The island's chic ambiance and international flair make it a top choice for many of our top clients. For us, the days when programmes were overloaded with sights and activities are over. Today, it's about being able to relax and unwind. Everyday business life is hectic enough, you should have time to slow down - and Mykonos does that so well.

inVOYAGE: And what about hotels? Any personal favourites?

Karin, CEO, nice:-) We all know that the hotel part of an incentive programme is very important. Personally, we've found that the hotels in the Myconian Collection offer the best blend of sophistication and relaxation – their facilities, design, service mentality, cuisine and location are simply outstanding.

inVOYAGE: Turning to you, Kayla, I know Rockitfish has also taken groups to Mykonos in the past, what activities do you recommend for those who haven’t visited before?

Kayla, Senior Project Manager, Rockitfish: We love Mykonos as an overseas corporate destination. It’s beautiful and vibrant with something for everyone. There’s a good mix of authentic hotels that can give your group that exclusive feel and everything on the island is no more than 20-30 minutes’ drive away.  There’s nothing quite like taking guests on an Island Tour in Jeeps. Alternatively, we love a walking tour in a new town or city. Walk through the small alleys of Mykonos town while admiring the Greek Cycladic architecture of white-blue houses. Why not pair it with food tasting tour too. It’s a great opportunity for the team to get out and explore this incredible destination.

The sea and sand have so much to offer too, beach clubs, island tours, water sports, dolphins and sunset cruises.

inVOYAGE: Sounds incredible! And do you have any top tips for planning an incentive?

Kayla, Senior Project Manager, Rockitfish: When thinking about dates, avoid major holidays. This can help keep the cost down and ensures you’re not taking your clients to a place that’s overcrowded more than it needs to be.

Always bear in mind what the weather is like on the chosen dates, as this will affect the activities and dinner destinations. Try to give yourself as much time to plan as possible, to secure more competitive rates with hotels and more cost effective seats on the flights.

Think about travel times, and make sure guests have some down time when planning the itinerary. It’s very easy to jam pack a schedule to try and get the most out of the break away.

Always think about the customer experience, not just the activity, but the journey to the activity too by varying methods of transport. Everyone loves a bike ride or a boat trip. Think outside the box with meals. It doesn’t always have to be a 3-course seated dinner. We love walking tours, BBQs on the beach and small plates family style.

Organise late check outs in advance, where possible and find a great DMC that knows their stuff!
