Experience this: Downton Abbey with Belmond

It’s time to return to Downton – but not just from the comfort of a cosy sofa. This trip requires your very finest, as Belmond has revealed some upcoming day trips to transport guests back in time to the Crawleys’ beloved estate.

Fans of the period drama will be able to board the Belmond British Pullman  from London Victoria Station and head to Highclere Castle, the 5,000-acre country manor that has assumed the role of Downton Abbey.

Built in 1793 and currently home to the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, the Jacobethan-style mansion will open its doors for two days in 2020 exclusively for Belmond passengers to venture behind the scenes and enjoy a bespoke, guided tour of both the 300-roomed house and its gardens.

There will also be time to check out the home’s Egyptian exhibition, curated by former owner, the fifth Earl of Carnavon, who discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb with Howard Carter. On the way back, guests can assume character as they enjoy the stunning surrounds, which are a tribute to the Golden Age of train travel.
