Checking In: Palma’s new luxury boutique hotel

Located in the very heart of Palma’s old town in the cobble-stoned quarter of La Calatrava, the neighbourhood that is home to the royal palace of La Almudaina, lies El Llorenç de la Mer, a new boutique property with 33 luxurious rooms.

Beyond the classical façade lies an interior defined by large public spaces which pay homage to the blend of Old World Spanish, Moorish, and Arabic aesthetics, while channeling the creative zeitgeist of modern-day Palma.

Guests can admire the contemporary artwork that hangs alongside vintage monochrome photography in this hip retreat.  Each of the guestrooms feature a king-size beds, custom furniture and pieces from designers including Emu, Kartell and Roche Bobois, which contrast beautifully with the patterned floors, designed to emulate traditional Arabic star motifs.

Mallorcan chef Santi Taura has created the gastronomic offering at El Llorenç which embodies all the flavours of traditional island cuisine and locally-sourced produce, through an innovative Balearic tasting menu.

Dominated by the open kitchen, for optimum chef watching opportunities, DINS Santi Taura features a semi-circular dining bar for 12 guests, and tables to accommodate a further 28.  The three-tiered rooftop terrace is the ideal spot for pleasure seekers, as it houses both the cocktail bar and Palma’s longest infinity pool.
