Checking in… Monkey Island Estate

The glorious Monkey Island Estate reopens this summer on a bijou island on the River Thames, within in the historic village of Bray in Berkshire. The property is steeped in history, as the island was once a favoured haunt of monarchs, aristocrats and artists, not to mention the local literati.

The two Grade I listed heritage pavilions which make up the property were originally commissioned as a fishing retreat back in 1723 by the third Duke of Marlborough. Now restored to their former glory, complete with beautifully landscaped gardens Monkey Island Estate features 27 stylish guestrooms and three suites, all of which blend timeless glamour with modern country chic.

Guests can explore the property and find several spaces to relax and unwind in from The Monkey Room, The Monkey Bar and the cosy The Whiskey Snug, not to mention the spacious terrace with its views of the Thames. This hidden gem suits high-level exclusive events, with guests arriving by footbridge, boat or helicopter in to the pristine grounds.

The stately ballroom suits large formal events while the stylish River Room and intimate Spencer Suite and boardroom can welcome smaller groups looking for a luxury retreat within easy access of the capital.
