Rosewood to reopen Hawaii’s Kona Village Resort

Hawaii is set to welcome its first Rosewood hotel with the luxury brand revealing it has been appointed to manage the iconic Kona Village when it reopens following a major renovation.

Kona Village, which has been closed since 2011 after sustaining damage from a tsunami, was first developed in the early 1960s by Johnno Jackson. 

Located on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, the resort will debut 150 unique, standalone guest cottages with locally inspired décor and spectacular views when it reopens in 2022. Led by Hawaii-raised architect, Greg Warner of Walker Warner Architects, each accommodation will offer a private lanai and outdoor shower.

The property will offer an array of distinctive dining venues, including the original resort’s beloved Shipwreck Bar and Talk Story Bar. Guests will have access to new amenities including Sense, A Rosewood Spa, a state-of-the-art fitness facility, as well as multiple pools and tennis courts.

Incentive groups will be able to take part in a diverse outdoor recreational programme, including ocean sports and activities designed to inform, inspire and excite travellers of all ages. 

Devoted to preserving the heritage of the destination, the resort will feature a cultural centre that will provide both locals and visitors access to extensive Hawaiian lineage, providing a link between the resort and its surroundings. Walker Warner Architects, together with VITA Planning & Landscape Architecture, will incorporate sustainable practices and indigenous materials throughout the design of the resort.
