Checking in: Royal Lancaster London

This striking Thai-owned hotel overlooking Hyde Park originally opened its doors in 1967 and recently underwent a painstaking £85m renovation, to make it one of the slickest hotels in the capital.

Take a pick from one of the 411 rooms and suites, all of which have been revamped in contemporary yet comfortable fabrics and offer views out across Hyde Park and the London skyline.

Gastronomes will be delighted with the hotel’s culinary offerings, which include the Island Grill serving a menu of locally sourced British fare made with sustainability and seasonality in mind.

Expect a traditional experience at Nipa Thai, where everything from the teak décor sourced from Thailand, through to the traditional all-female, all-Thai kitchen is authentic.

Afternoon tea is served in the intimate Hyde Café while the extensive cocktail list in the Park Lounge Bar is worth exploring. This is a property to delight event planners, with 16 event spaces on offer, including The Nine Kings and Westbourne Suites, which can seat 2,400 guests collectively for dinner.
