Six hot hotel openings around the world this autumn/winter
Travel might be on pause for many of us right now, but that hasn’t stopped luxury hotel brands forging ahead with putting the finishing touches to their new properties around the world. There are plenty of new openings this autumn/winter to get excited about and here’s six we think will be perfect for luxury events and incentives once travel restrictions ease and live events return…
Nobu Hotel London Portman Square
Located in the heart of London’s Marylebone, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square’s planned summer opening was delayed due to the pandemic. It’s now preparing to open its doors this November. Nobu Hotel London Portman Square is the second London hotel for Nobu Hospitality, the globally established lifestyle brand founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper, following the opening of Nobu Hotel Shoreditch in 2017. The new property will feature 249 guest rooms and suites, together with a Nobu restaurant, ballroom and meeting spaces.
Aman New York
Luxury brand Aman’s much-anticipated New York property is slated to open before the end of the year. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, this urban sanctuary is located in the iconic Crown building at the prestigious address of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. The 83-room property will boast a dramatic double-height Sky Lobby, 10th-floor wraparound Garden Terrace, which will feature a bar with sweeping views of Central Park, a Cigar Bar, and year-round dining, and spa.
Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk
This new property from Accor’s Sofitel brand features an obelisk shape harking to the hotel's French and Egyptian inspiration. Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk (which was originally going to open as Sofitel Dubai Wafi) is connected to Wafi Mall and with 595 rooms, it will be the largest Sofitel hotel in the Middle East. Event planners will have access to ten meeting rooms in addition to a 1,115 square metre ballroom. The hotel will also offer several culinary hotspots including Brassiere Boulud, designed by famed chef Daniel Boulud, known for his double Michelin-starred restaurant in New York, and Taiko – sister restaurant to the award-winning venue in Amsterdam by Chef Schilo Van Coevorden.
Montage Healdsburg
Perfect for luxury incentives, this new property will make its debut in the heart of California’s Sonoma wine country on 12 December. Nestled among 258 acres of rolling vineyards and oak tree groves, Montage Healdsburg will offer 130 high-end bungalow-style rooms and suites, spa and infinity pool, three signature dining options, including a seasonal poolside restaurant, inspired by the region’s culinary heritage and easy access to Northern California’s renowned wineries and outdoor experiences.
Tokyo Edition Toranomon
Opened this week, The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon will offer 206 rooms, including 22 suites, with views of Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Bay. The property will feature a spa, 24-hour gym powered by Technogym, a swimming pool and jacuzzi, and four meeting rooms which combined create a ballroom accommodating up to 250 guests. The restaurants are spearheaded by Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens - his first foray into Japan. The Blue Room is the hotel’s all-day dining venue, whereas The Jade Room offers an original and bespoke menu. Both restaurants offer private dining rooms.
NoMad London
Our second London opening, the 91-room NoMad London, is now taking bookings from December. This new property from Sydell Group, the company behind The Ned, will be located in the heart of Covent Garden inside the historic, grade II-listed building famously known as The Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station. The building’s original Magistrates’ Courtroom, now the Magistrates' Ballroom, has been reimagined as a formal space seating up to 75, with two adjacent private dining rooms, a separate bar, and a dedicated entrance from the street using the original courtroom’s entrance.
