inVOYAGE: Firstly, congratulations on your latest hotel launch DEOS! We’re incredibly excited to see it in person and can’t wait to bring our delegates there for our second night of inVOYAGE Mykonos. Can you share some behind-the-scenes insights into the creation and launch of this new hotel? What makes DEOS unique within the Myconian Collection?
Panos: Thank you so much for your kind words and enthusiasm about DEOS! We're thrilled to welcome you and your delegates to experience what we've created. Creating DEOS was a labour of love, inspired by a desire to blend opulence with a sense of timeless elegance. From the outset, our vision was clear: to craft a retreat that not only caters to the tastes of the upper class but also offers a unique and memorable experience. The planning and design process involved a deep collaboration with top architects and designers who understood our vision and helped bring it to life. Each element, from the grand wooden panelling in the rooms to the expansive terraces, was meticulously selected to embody sophistication and comfort.
DEOS boasts a premium location that enhances its exclusivity and charm. Poised on a hilltop above the town of Mykonos, the hotel offers unparalleled panoramic views that provide a perfect backdrop for relaxation and luxury. This prime setting ensures that guests have easy access to the island's cultural and natural beauty while maintaining a sense of secluded tranquillity.

inVOYAGE: And what about the initial vision behind the creation of the Myconian Collection group? What inspired the design and concept of these luxurious villas and where did your original passion for hospitality come from?
Panos: The initial vision behind the creation of the group was deeply rooted in our family’s legacy and passion for hospitality, which has been passed down through generations. The Myconian Collection represents the synthesis of heritage, loyalty, and emotion that is central to some of the world’s great family businesses. Managed by my brothers and me, the portfolio now includes thirteen of the leading luxury hotels on Mykonos.
The design and concept of each property were inspired by this rich heritage and our commitment to providing an authentic and exceptional experience. Situated high above the famous 16th-century windmills of the old Alefkandra harbour, our very first modest 25-room Bed & Breakfast featured outstanding views, personalized service, and the soul of Greek hospitality. Over the years, we expanded in response to growing demand for luxury destinations in the Mediterranean, adding hotels in beautiful parts of Mykonos and transforming areas like the bay of Elia into international resort destinations.
inVOYAGE: Sounds incredible! And as one of the owners, what do you find most rewarding about working at the Myconian Collection Hotels & Resorts?
Panos: It’s not just one thing, but many aspects that make working at the group incredibly rewarding. For starters, there's the opportunity to continue and build upon the legacy my parents started. There’s a profound sense of fulfilment in knowing that we are preserving and enhancing the family business that began with such humble roots.
Seeing guests return year after year and bringing new generations of their families to experience the beauty and hospitality of Mykonos is incredibly rewarding. Their loyalty and satisfaction are a testament to the quality and authenticity of the experiences we provide.
Working closely with my brothers and continuing the traditions of our family business is another immensely aspect. We balance each other's strengths and support one another, which not only strengthens our business but also our family bonds. It's a unique experience to work towards common goals with people you trust implicitly.
inVOYAGE: Now, I know the Myconian Collection started off with humble beginnings and had a big impact on the island right from the very beginning. Could you tell us more about this? And what about today? How does the Myconian Collection continue to contribute to the local community and economy through the hotel group?
Panos: In 1979, our father, George Daktylides, laid the foundations for our family business after returning from military service.
Today, the Myconian Collection continues to significantly contribute to the local community and economy through various initiatives connected to the group. We have maintained and deepened our ties with local suppliers and artisans, ensuring that our guests enjoy a truly authentic experience while supporting the local economy.
We also engage in local environmental conservation projects and support the community through educational and infrastructural donations. For example, in 2020, we completed the construction of a fully functional, eco-friendly secondary school in Ano Mera village, serving over 200 students and providing accommodation for teachers. This project reflects our commitment to supporting the youth and future of Mykonos.
Looking ahead, we remain dedicated to finding new ways to support and enrich our local community and economy, staying true to our roots while embracing innovation and sustainability.
