Hot on the heels of playing host to the Rugby World Cup in 2019, Japan is preparing to take the spotlight again this summer when it welcomes the biggest event in the world – the Olympic Games. Unsurprisingly in the run up to Tokyo 2020, the Japanese capital has seen a flurry of new hotels, so we check out three of the hottest new luxury openings…

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi
Set to open this July, just in time for the Olympics, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi will be the brand’s second property in the city. The hotel will occupy the upper six floors of a 39-story office tower and offer around 190 rooms and multiple indoor and outdoor restaurants and bars, as well as sweeping views of the city from the 39th floor rooftop terrace.

It will also feature a state-of-the-art spa, fitness centre and indoor pool as well as extensive meeting and events spaces and an Executive Club lounge for business travellers.

The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon
Set to be the first EDITION Hotel in Japan, the Tokyo EDITION Toranomon is part of the redevelopment of the former Pastoral Building, a mixed-use project comprising offices, residences and a medical centre. Located in Tokyo’s upmarket neighbourhood of Toranomon, the hotel will offer easy access to some of Tokyo’s most iconic sites, including the Tokyo Tower and Tsukiji fish market and is within walking distance of the buzzing nightlife and restaurants of Roppongi.

It will feature 205 rooms and suites, four food and beverage outlets, dedicated meeting and events spaces, a swimming pool, a fitness centre and a spa. EDITION’s much-loved cocktail bar, Punch Room, is also planned as part of the project.  

The Okura Tokyo
After a four-year renovation Tokyo’s Hotel Okura, which originally opened in 1962, has reopened as The Okura Tokyo. The iconic property boasts 508 rooms across two buildings. The Okura Heritage Wing is a 17-story structure with its own reception area, a traditional Japanese restaurant and a dedicated room for tea ceremonies.

The Okura Prestige Tower is a 41-story building, where guestrooms begin on the 28th floor. The top floor has a teppanyaki restaurant, an all-day dining restaurant and a Chinese restaurant. The tower also has event and banquet facilities, reportedly including one of the largest hotel ballrooms in Tokyo.
