Corinthia Hotel Group Makes its Mark in New York’s Upper East Side

An anticipated opening for one of New York’s most affluent neighbourhoods. Next-Up: The European Capitals of Italy, Belgium and Romania

Overlooking Madison Avenue, The Surrey boasts a beautiful view of the Upper East Side - famed for its famous visitors during its (near) 100-year history. Set to open in October 2024.

Four years after its acquisition, The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel will be re-opening its doors on the Upper East Side of Manhattan under the management and moniker of the Corinthia Hotel Group.

The Surrey has a rich history that is rooted in the heart of New York’s most desirable address – just moments from Central Park, and surrounded by NYC’s finest department stores, luxury boutiques and a plethora of uptown’s must-see attractions.

In partnership with the Reuben Brothers, the hotel honours the Upper East Side’s heritage by seamlessly blending timeless glamour with modern sophistication designed by Martin Brudnizki, boasting 70 guest rooms and 30 suites - plus 14 luxury residences. This ‘New Icon’ of the UES “represents a significant milestone for Corinthia Hotels… allow[ing] us to bring to New York our commitment to luxury, elegance, and exceptional service”.

Simon Casson, CEO of Corinthia Hotels, wasn’t lying.

A jewel-box spa, AMP-designed gymnasium, outdoor yoga space, and VITSO Gallery-curated collection of artworks make this a haven for those seeking tranquillity, culture and rejuvenation amongst the buzz of the Big Apple.

Having a presence in the United States has always been a goal for Corinthia Hotels, especially in New York, a city that I consider one of the most vibrant and exciting places in the world
— Simon Naudi, Group CEO and Managing Director

The pièce de resistance borrows from the shores of Miami with Miky & Leticia Grendene’s renowned, Casa Tua. Celebrated for its cosy and inviting ambiance, Casa Tua proudly presents a menu that delights and honours the heritage of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, showcased in the public restaurant and lounge – as well as a luxury private member’s area (known as, The Club).

Casa Tua: the public restaurant, where every meal celebrates the simple pleasures of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. You will also find a lounge and member's only club hidden within the walls of The Surrey.

Corinthia is a perfect place for incentive travel. The company mantra, Uplifting Lives, motivates the business and its staff to enrich the visits of the guests they serve, to go beyond the location and interior and make moments that are meaningful and memorable.

The Surrey is no exception. Crafted with the high-end luxury incentive market in mind, the attention to detail in the service is second only to the meticulous restoration and upgrading of the amenities. Third on that list would likely be location, and it could barely be more appropriate. Bordering Madison Avenue and Central Park, the options for retail therapy, cultural discovery or sightseeing are abundant.

We look forward to working closely with the Reuben Brothers to restore the hotel to its former glory just in time for its 100th anniversary and to play a role in helping rebuild Manhattan’s hospitality industry after this most difficult time.
— Simon Naudi, Group CEO and Managing Director

European Capital Takeover

This venture with the Reuben Brothers is Corinthia’s first in North America and is one of two properties that the group are working with RB to re-develop and manage – Corinthia Rome being the other.

Following Corinthia’s tradition of restoring 19th Century grand hotels across Europe, Corinthia Rome is set to be a harmonious blend of historical grandeur and artistic spirit that embodies the Italian capital.

Pair these with Corinthia Grand Hotel Du Boulevard Bucharest and Corinthia Grand Hotel Astoria Brussels, you have a globally-renowned luxury brand with six decades of experience that is quietly becoming one of the must-visit hotel groups in 2025.

Steeped in culture and international flavour, the Belgian capital will eagerly await the November opening date for the next Corinthia project. The fabled Grand Hotel Astoria will harmonise the heritage of this beautiful city with an avant-garde attitude – characterised by the exceptional visionaries that will be part of the gastronomic and wellness journeys at Corinthia Brussels.  Michelin stars and awards are abundant amongst the talented team of Belgian partners that will be driving forward the dining experience and holistic health approach to the restored legend of the capital.

As Corinthia continues to expand its portfolio, each property demonstrates the group's unwavering commitment to luxurious, thoughtful hospitality. Whether it's the reopening of The Surrey in Manhattan, the anticipated revival of Corinthia Rome, or the upcoming debut of the Grand Hotel Astoria in Brussels, every project is rooted in an ethos of cultural reverence, modern sophistication, and unparalleled guest experiences.

Looking ahead to 2025, Corinthia's expanding presence in some of the world’s most vibrant cities underscores its status as a trailblazer in the luxury hospitality space. With a unique blend of heritage restoration, cutting-edge amenities, and world-class culinary and wellness offerings, Corinthia Hotels are setting a new standard in global luxury. For discerning travellers seeking more than just a place to stay, Corinthia is crafting destinations that inspire, uplift, and redefine the meaning of luxury.
