Corinthia Unveils a Restored Icon in Europe

The grand hotel astoria has officially opened its doors, proclaiming its place as a beacon of luxury in the heart of Europe.

This restoration of the famous Grand Hotel Astoria in the Belgian capital is the latest chapter in Corinthia Hotels’ ongoing commitment to reviving historic landmarks and transforming them into contemporary havens of elegance and sophistication.

Located on Rue Royale, one of Brussels’ most prestigious boulevards, the Grand Hotel Astoria has a storied past that dates back to its debut in 1909. Once celebrated as the epitome of Belgian hospitality, this iconic property is now poised to re-enter the stage, combining its rich heritage with Corinthia’s hallmark of modern luxury and exceptional service.

This comes on the heels of The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel’s opening in October 2024 – another storied property that has been revived and elevated as part of the collaboration between Corinthia and the Reuben Brothers.

A Landmark Revived

The reopening follows an extensive €150 million restoration led by Corinthia Hotels in partnership with the Reuben Brothers. Originally built in the early 1900’s and on one of Brussels' most iconic addresses, the hotel now blends its storied past with the highest standards of modern hospitality. The meticulously restored interiors retain the grandeur of the Belle Époque era, from ornate plasterwork to marble staircases, while introducing sleek, contemporary touches designed for today’s discerning traveller (you can discover more about the restoration by MA² here).

The property boasts 126 guest rooms and suites, each artfully curated to offer an atmosphere of timeless sophistication. Bespoke furnishings, rich textiles, and curated artwork create a sense of understated opulence, ensuring every detail contributes to an exceptional experience.

Culinary Excellence in the Heart of Brussels

Dining at the Grand Hotel Astoria is a celebration of Brussels' culinary prowess and global influences. The hotel’s flagship restaurant, Palais Royal, is helmed by renowned Belgian chef David Martin. Here, guests can indulge in an inspired fusion of French and Japanese cuisine, showcasing seasonal ingredients and meticulous craftsmanship.

Complementing this is the hotel’s chic cocktail bar, Under the Stairs, where guests can savour signature drinks in an intimate, atmospheric setting (opening February 2025). Meanwhile, the Palm Court, with its stunning stained-glass ceiling, offers a serene space for afternoon tea or an evening aperitif.

A Sanctuary of Wellness

True to Corinthia's commitment to holistic well-being, the Grand Hotel Astoria features a subterranean spa that promises a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Led by Emilie Bazzocchi, General Manager for Sisley BeLux and the visionary behind Corinthia Spa by Sisley, guests can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, including an indoor pool, seven private treatment rooms, steam room, sauna, experience showers and a relaxing plant-based tea room for guests to recover and refuel after their visit.

The Perfect Setting for Incentives and Events

Located just moments from Brussels’ iconic Grand Place and the European Parliament, the Grand Hotel Astoria is ideally positioned for luxury incentive travel and corporate events. Its versatile meeting spaces, equipped with cutting-edge technology, provide a sophisticated backdrop for gatherings of all kinds. Coupled with Corinthia’s renowned attention to detail, the hotel offers an experience that is as seamless as it is memorable.

A New Era for Corinthia Hotels

As Simon Casson, CEO of Corinthia Hotels, noted, "The reopening of Corinthia Brussels marks an exciting chapter for both our brand and the city."

“This project isn’t just about restoring a hotel—it’s about redefining what luxury hospitality can be. By collaborating with some of Belgium’s most forward-thinking craftspeople and gastronomic minds, we’re challenging conventions and creating something truly special.”

This sentiment underscores Corinthia’s dedication to reviving historic landmarks and redefining luxury hospitality.

With the Grand Hotel Astoria, Corinthia continues its legacy of elevating historic properties, adding to its growing portfolio of restored European icons in Rome, London, and Bucharest.

As Corinthia continues its tradition of uplifting lives and redefining luxury, the Grand Hotel Astoria is set to become a shining jewel in Brussels’ crown. Whether visiting for business or leisure, guests can look forward to a stay that is nothing short of extraordinary.
